The sudden death of Peter Samson last Saturday sent shock waves through the Radnor lacrosse community and in Southeastern Pennsylvania, writes Bruce Adams for mainlinemedianews.com.

Radnor High School boys lacrosse coach John Begier said Monday, “He was such a positive person, and I remember how selfless he was – always looking to make other people’s lives better not only from lacrosse standpoint but a life standpoint.”

Samson started Radnor youth lacrosse. He organized boys lacrosse in Southeast Pennsylvania through his leadership at SEPYLA (Southeast Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association).

Samson served as an assistant boys’ lacrosse coach at Radnor during the past year.

In 2017, Samson was inducted into the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

At the 2009 U.S. Lacrosse Convention, he received the coveted Founders Circle Award for his work in Radnor.

Samson, a trial lawyer, played lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania in the early 1970s.

He was a driving force behind the annual Katie Samson Foundation Lacrosse Festival, the largest one-day high school lacrosse festival in the United States.

The festival has raised approximately $2 million for charities benefitting medical research, providing care for people with spinal cord injuries.
