Aston gets $300G Grant From Energy Transfer to Build Handicapped-accessible Playground

By

An Aston Commissioner and her daughter’s dream of having a handicapped-accessible playground is becoming reality, thanks in part to a $300,000 funding commitment by Energy Transfer Partners, writes Loretta Rodgers for the Daily Times.

“As a resident of Aston Township myself, I’m proud that Energy Transfer, which moves the energy products used to make playground equipment, has made this commitment that will enable the township to move ahead with this great initiative,” said Joseph McGinn, Energy Transfer vice president of public affairs and government relations.

Energy Transfer Partners and its affiliate, Sunoco Pipeline, are building the Mariner East Pipeline project.

The Smiles in the Playground, planned for the township community center on Concord Road, features swings, merry-go-round, seesaw, climbing area and more.

Building the playground is a huge funding hurdle, said Kit Spayd, daughter of Second Ward Commissioner Carol Graham, so the donation from Energy Transfer is truly appreciated.

“I’m proud to see a private business such as Energy Transfer appreciate and invest in the communities that they are a part of,” Graham said. “This is a wonderful example of a company being a great neighbor.”

The township is finalizing plans for the playground.
