Delaware County Community College is asking its 12 sponsoring school districts for a $55 million investment to buy the former Archbishop Prendergast High School building in Drexel Hill, writes Kevin Tusin for the Daily Times.

The resolution allows the college to purchase and renovate the building at 403 N. Lansdowne Ave. owned by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The college plans to shut down its Southeast Center and Upper Darby campuses and open a new campus center in the school.

The school boards of Upper Darby and Interboro voted no to the resolution May 14 and May 15. “There are a lot of unknowns, and I’m also concerned because the district desperately needs space and there is opposition for the Clifton Heights property,” said Upper Darby School Board President Rachel Mitchell. “If the district could get the Prendie property that would be able to solve a lot of our problems.”

School board members at Interboro also voted the resolution down.

College spokesman Anthony Twyman did not say how rejection of the resolution from sponsoring school districts would affect the purchase.  An agreement of sale has not been entered yet between the college and the Archdiocese.
