Lindenshade, a historic home with a library designed by legendary architect Frank Furness, is for sale, writes Clara Lefton for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The home, at 26 Furness Lane in Wallingford, has four bedrooms, three baths and whole lot of history. This is from Coldwell Banker’s Jessica Mudrick, the co-listing agent on the property:

Lindenshade’s two-story library was designed by  Frank Furness for his brother Horace Howard Furness, a renowned Shakespearean scholar.

The library still features the original iron railings to access the upper stacks and a door designed by the acclaimed Daniel Pabst.  This door hung in Horace Howard Furness’ Philadelphia house and was rehung at Lindenshade in 1903 when the library was built.

Much of the research preserved in this home now resides in the University of Pennsylvania Library; the desk Pabst built for Furness currently resides in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The home sits on about an acre. The listing price is $599,900.

Architect Frank Furness, who died in 1912, left an indelible mark on the Philadelphia area with his flamboyant Victorian designs. His most significant works include the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia.
