Pennsylvania ranks 15th among the most at-risk states for robocall tax scams from now through April 28, according to a new study by AllAreaCodes.com.

The website has released its States Most at Risk for Tax Season Scams list after analyzing 15 million consumer complaints released by the FTC over the last three years.

The study noted that, during this period, complaints increased during the March and April tax season, peaking on the third week in April. During that week, complaints were 10 percent higher than the last week of March and more than five times January’s daily average.

Pennsylvania registered 1,867 FTC complaints per 100,000 people over the last three years. On a county level, Chester County registered 1,684 complaints, while Delaware County registered 1,239 complaints.

Meanwhile, Nevada is most at risk for robocall tax scams with 2,579 complaints per 100,000 people, compared to Alaska, the least at-risk state, with 549 complaints per 100,000 people.

The IRS has also repeatedly stated that it will not call consumers to request immediate payment without first sending a bill in the mail, will not ask for credit or debit card details over the phone, and will not threaten with the police or lawsuits.
