Christian Ray, an Atglen resident who attended Octorara for his first two years of high school, then The Haverford School for three more, was named Philadelphia’s High School Basketball Player of the Year, writes Aaron Carter for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ray, who will play on the next level at La Salle, ended his scholastic career on the Main Line as one of the most accomplished performers in recent Inter-Academic League history.

The 6-foot-6 Ray averaged 23.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists this season for the Fords, who finished 28-0 and captured their first-ever Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association title.

In January, he eclipsed 2,000 career points.

In addition to Ray, Malvern Prep junior Kieves “Deuce” Turner, a Coatesville resident, was a first-team All-City selection. Turner led the Inter-Ac in scoring with 26.6 points per game, which included two outings of more than 40 points.

Players from the Philadelphia Public League, Philadelphia Catholic League, and Inter-Ac League were eligible for the Inquirer’s All-City honors.
