Frank Pica Jr., the second-generation owner of Pica’s Restaurant in Upper Darby that is famous for its pizza, has died at 77, writes Kevin Tustin for the Daily Times.

Pica leaves behind a legacy that built Pica’s Restaurant into a pizza institution.

“I lived down the street from Pica’s for years, and I still go there regularly,” said Upper Darby Police Captain David Madonna. “He has built a legacy that could never be duplicated.”

The restaurant began with Pica’s father, Frank Sr., who opened the eatery with the family name in Philadelphia in 1941. He later moved it to West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, where it has remained for more than six decades. The family opened another restaurant in West Chester two years ago.

The restaurant even got a shout-out on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when a Pica’s pie was given to Upper Darby native Tina Fey in 2014.

Customers recently poured in the restaurant to express their condolences and share memories of Pica Jr.
