The Delaware County Arts Consortium and the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance will announce details about the inaugural Delco Arts Week (Sept. 21-28, 2019) during an event on Tuesday, March 5 as part of National Arts Advocacy Day.
The formal announcement will occur at 10 AM at the Community Arts Center, located at 414 Plush Mill Road in Wallingford. U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon will kick off the press conference. Artists and members of arts venues are all welcome to attend.
Delco Arts Week – made possible by sponsorships from The Foundation for Delaware County and Destination Delco – will be held from Sept. 21-28 at more than 30 arts venues within Delaware County.
The week is designed to celebrate the community’s vast array of arts and cultural attractions. The celebration aims to bring thousands of people to Delaware County and establish it as a destination for those seeking many rewarding and enriching cultural experiences.
According to the Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Delaware County is home to more than 30 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations that pump $25,925,269 into the local economy. Total attendance at Delaware County arts and culture venues last year was 439,178, while the arts and culture workforce in Delco was 1,450 employees. Interestingly, one could have attended 4,336 different events in the county last year.
“I feel that art has the potential to be the connecting force that brings our communities together,” said Drew Arata, an artist and the co-owner of Earth & State Gallery in Media. “Living here in Delaware County, where there is a strong history of cultivating creativity, we continue to honor that tradition in the diverse garden of arts organizations that thrive here.”
