Residents of Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square can now learn the art of flower arranging at the community’s Floral Design Studio created by fellow resident and Philadelphia Flower Show official Francesca Northrup, writes Tamala Edwards for 6ABC.

Northrup became interested in floral design decades ago. Her interest was piqued following a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show, where she entered a challenge class and won with her miniature arrangement.

“It’s sort of been an inspiration to me ever since, that anybody can do this, and they can,” said Northrup.

Soon after, she started volunteering at the PFS and is now a member of the executive committee.

When she wanted to downsize, she donated items to create the Floral Design Studio at Dunwoody, where she now lives. She now teaches classes once a month at the studio and believes everyone can learn.

“People come in and say to me, ‘I can’t do this. I don’t know how. I’ve never been successful,’ and they all walk out successful,” she said.

She also discovered something else when she started living at Dunwoody – a talent for painting.

“I just love doing it,” she said.
