Pennsylvania has the third-highest tax rates in the nation, according to a recently published analysis by WalletHub.

For its list of 2019 Tax Rates by State, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across four types of taxation: Real-Estate Tax, Vehicle Property Tax, Income Tax, and Sales & Excise Tax.

Pennsylvania ranked 49th overall with a total of 13.78 percent or $8,004 in state and local tax rates on a median U.S. household, which has an annual income of $58,082.

The Keystone State did slightly better in the adjusted overall rank based on the cost of living, placing 45th.

In the individual categories, Pennsylvania ranked 49th for Income Tax, 40th for Real-Estate Tax, and 26th for Sales & Excise Tax. And while Pennsylvania is one of the states with no vehicle property tax, it compensates for it by having the highest gas taxes.

WalletHub also published its 2019 Taxpayer Survey. The findings showed that 89 percent of people think the government does not spend their tax dollars wisely.
