The resurgence of the Swarthmore College men’s basketball program is part of a larger athletic initiative that has turned one of the most elite institutions of higher education into an NCAA Division III powerhouse, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.

Swarthmore, a school that has 1,577 students and an admittance rate below 15 percent, is currently home to one of the most formidable Division III men’s basketball teams in the nation. Led by coach Landry Kosmalski, the Garnet has reached the NCAA Tournament the last three seasons.

The team has posted school-record win totals every year during that stretch and has become an annual fixture in the Top 25.

Swarthmore recently finished the 2018-19 regular season with a 22-3 record and is currently ranked sixth in the country. Much of the program’s success has coincided with the arrival of Kosmalski, who has created a winning culture.

“There is support here for athletics, and that’s important,” he said.
