Thunderbird, the third-generation steak shop in Broomall, is a local hotbed for Eagles-related chatter and the perfect place to enjoy a game, writes Maria Panaritis for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The eatery is an institution in Broomall and is run by three brothers: Steve, Bill, and Tom Greco. Their grandfather opened the place, which they took over when their father died in the 1990s.

Many patrons have been regulars for decades. Paul Baker, an insurance agent from Narberth, has been eating his favorite chicken salad sandwich there for more than 30 years.

“It’s like Happy Days in here,” he said.

Football fans flock to Thunderbird on game days for chicken wings and to watch the Eagles.

Last year, when the Birds played in the Super Bowl, Tom turned off the phones at noon. Even so, nearly 4,500 pieces of chicken were baked, fried, and dressed that day.

“For five hours, those phones didn’t ring, yet there was a flood, a sea of people coming in here,” he said. “It was intense.”
