Blues legend and Media resident Lonnie Shields has found his successor in 20-year-old Jesse Loewy and has been mentoring the Havertown native for the last eight years, writes Lora Englehart for Main Line Today.

Shields met the young guitarist in 2011 when he was considering retiring for a second time. The Arkansas native had already recorded five albums and had toured all over Europe and Russia and across the U.S.

Loewy, who was 13 at the time, was mesmerized by Shields and his ability to hold audiences in the palm of his hand. Already a skilled guitarist himself, Loewy managed to convince the seasoned musician to postpone his retirement plans and become his mentor.

The pair then began performing together. Recently, they even played in Shields’s hometown of West Helena, Ark., at the King Biscuit Blues Festival.
