Modern Auto Crafters on West Chester Pike in Upper Darby is a body-shop empire built on customer satisfaction, writes David Bjorkgren for Autobody News.

The business that began as a single garage with one part-time employee has grown into a thriving collision repair business. This is thanks to the promise its current owner, Pete Kathopoulis, made to his dying father, Danny.

“I promised him that I was going to grow the business to make it be a successful brand,” said Kathopoulis.

Danny Kathopoulis started the business 25 years ago, and when he died, Pete took it over. The new owner, who graduated from The Haverford School and played basketball at Saint Joseph’s University, received the business in good shape but with room for growth.

Kathopoulis decided to get a loan and scout the area’s best body shops to convince their top employees to work for him.

The business soon outgrew its original location and is now on a significantly larger site on West Chester Pike.

Today, it’s renowned as one of the East Coast’s top body shops.
