Local Home and Gifts in Media, Delaware County Women Against Rape, and District Attorney Katayoun Copeland have teamed up for the “Purses with a Purpose” initiative to help female victims of crime, writes Alicia Nieves for CBS Philly.

Kathleen Rode, owner of the small business in Media, is offering a 20-percent-off coupon for every gently used purse donation.

“We are collecting gently used purses filled with some basic necessities to bring crime victims a little joy this holiday season,” said Copeland.

The purses contain items like socks, nail polish, lip balm, etc. So far, around 30 purses have been dropped off at the store. The project organizers hope to receive a few hundred bags by Dec. 20.

“Our clients, victims of crimes, often find themselves very isolated as a result of a crime,” said Candice Linehan of Delaware County Women Against Rape. “It helps us to remind our victims that they are not alone. It might be simple but it makes a huge impact.”

The donated purses will be distributed on Christmas Day.
