PGA Tour Event Brings Tiger Woods – and a Massive Economic Boon – to Region

The first BMW Championship in Pennsylvania in nearly six decades will bring the biggest names in golf to Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, providing a boost for the local economy, according to a report from the Daily Local News.

According to Barbara Lehman, the director of communications for Destination Delco, professional golf events like the BMW Championship equal the Super Bowl for fans and hosting communities.

“It’s a big deal,” she said. “We do know the entire county will benefit. We’re the last event before 30 guys have a shot at $10 million.”

She said that the area is expected to see between 130,000 and 150,000 visitors for the penultimate event in the PGA Tour playoffs for the FedExCup. The BMW Championship will welcome 70 players to the course from Sept. 4-7, including Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

“We look forward to bringing a major world-class event to Aronimink,” said Steven Zodtner, Aronimink’s president.
