Collectors of sports memorabilia with deep pockets have the chance to own a piece of Phillies history, writes Adam Hermann for PhillyVoice.

Rich Liberatore of Drexel Hill has put his turnstile from Connie Mack Stadium for sale on Letgo for $3,750.

According to Liberatore, his father and brother were at the very last game at Connie Mack Stadium that was played on Oct. 1, 1970. That day, the Phillies said a triumphant goodbye to their longtime home by beating the Expos, 2-1, in extra innings.

Immediately after the game, spectators rushed to grab anything they could get their hands on from the stadium. Some of the items were for their own memories, while others took items in the hopes of making some money.

“People were taking everything,” said Liberatore. “They ended up taking this turnstile. It sat in my parents’ garage for years, and I refurbished it about 20 years ago.”
