The Philadelphia Union has just signed Selmir Miscic, the youngest prospect in franchise history, to a professional contract, writes Matthew Ralph for Brotherly Game.

Miscic, 15, a Vermont native, joined the Philadelphia Union Academy with his twin brother Arnel two seasons ago, after his family relocated to Royersford. Selmir inked his deal with Bethlehem Steel FC, the Union’s affiliate in the United Soccer League.

“My parents made huge sacrifices for Arnel and I leaving,” he said. “It’s all paid off.”

Miscic is the fourth player to sign with the Steel directly from the Union’s academy.

“It’s credit to him and his mentality, the way he trains, the way he approaches each game,” said Steel coach Brendan Burke.

Miscic has also had other options and invitations from abroad, but has decided to stay put for now.

“This is home for me,” he said. “My teachers, my friends, my teammates, my family, we’re all here.”

The player’s profile exploded last year when he scored 33 goals in all competitions for the Union’s U15s. This made him an exciting prospect both for the Union and the national team.

“From a mentality standpoint, he’s one of the best we’ve seen,” said Burke.
