Upper Darby Summer Stage, now in its 43rd year, serves the entire Delaware Valley, with 800 students ages 10 to 28 learning from theater professionals. Its home is a state-of-the-art, acoustically true performing arts center at Upper Darby High School, writes Hugh Hunter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

This season, Summer Stage is featuring 42nd Street, which runs through Aug. 3-4.

First a Hollywood movie in 1933, 42nd Street is a Depression Era story about the rise of penniless performers. It was reimagined for the Broadway stage in 1980 by David Merrick, using the songbook of Harry Warren and Al Dubin.

It won the Tony Award for best musical in 1981.
