Glassdoor, the company-rating platform, says the Philadelphia metropolitan area leads the country in wage growth over the last year, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.

The new economic analysis, which encompassed Philadelphia and parts of surrounding suburban counties, says median base pay rose 2.8 percent to $55,723 over the last year.

The report tracked 84 jobs across 15 industries and compiled user-generated data, meaning it does not provide a traditional representative sample of the labor market.

Bloomberg pointed out that most of the wage growth over the last year has been driven by healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, which have a strong talent pipeline coming from Philadelphia’s institutions of higher education.

The findings in the Glassdoor report, however, can be misleading when placed in a broader context than the professions generally covered by Glassdoor.

Also, Glassdoor’s findings represent crowd-sourced information from only 10 large cities in the U.S.
