Neumann to the Rescue! University Salvages Wedding Reception of Aston Couple

By

Gabrielle Porter and Zachary Edwards married on Saturday, July 21.

It was a day their families had eagerly anticipated for months, until the week before the wedding, when a very gloomy weather forecast threatened their plans.

The Aston couple had arranged to hold their reception outdoors, at the home of an aunt who lives in the area, but predictions were for heavy rainfall.

Laura Stewart, a friend of the bride and groom, contacted Neumann Facilities Director Bill Leonard on Friday, July 20, at 3 PM and asked for help.

She wrote: “The couple are my cousins and they are truly amazing people. We are trying to do everything possible to bring their big day back on track, and I truly appreciate your willingness to consider this.”

The university came to the rescue.

Leonard shared the request with Gene McWilliams, vice president for finance and administration, who arranged for Community Hall to be available for the reception within 24 hours.

Stewart was thrilled.

“Thank you again for your kindness and generosity,” she wrote to Leonard. “It will not be forgotten. You truly saved the day!”
