Development is currently under way on the famous Ardrossan property in Radnor, writes Linda Stein for the Main Line Suburban Life.

The development is being handled by Edgar Scott III, the scion of the Montgomery Scott Wheeler family. He has sold 15 smaller lots to Malvern-based Pohlig Builders and said that the majority of clients will bring their own architects and builders.

But Scott is quick to note that, out of the 350 acres slated for development, 250 will remain as open space.

“That’s a lot of open space,” he said. “The whole thing is clean and green.”

Scott made the $11.6 million deal with Radnor Township for the slice of land at the corner of Darby-Paoli and Newtown roads. One of the goals is to preserve it as a “viewshed” for the homeowners, who will also receive a tax break.

Also, none of the existing buildings on the property will be affected. That includes the big house designed by Horace Trumbauer that used to be the home of the late Hope Montgomery Scott, the inspiration for the movie The Philadelphia Story.
