Villanova University’s capital campaign has raised an astonishing $759 million, surpassing the originally goal by more than $150 million, writes Susan Snyder for Philly.com.

The campaign titled “For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change” to raise $600 million was launched in October 2013. It achieved this goal eighteen months early, but continued fundraising until the set date.

The money raised during the campaign has already funded new endowed faculty positions and scholarships, ten new centers and interdisciplinary institutes, the naming of two colleges, and 40 new or renovated academic and athletic facilities.

The funds have also helped Villanova more than double its endowment to just over $700 million. The campaign saw record participation of over 77,500 alumni, parents, and others with more than half, first time donors.

One of the donations was the university’s largest ever with $50 million donated by alumnus and campaign co-chair James C. Davis and his wife, Kim. The school also received ten gifts of $10 million or more and 123 gifts of over $1 million.

“Our remarkable success is a credit to the countless Villanovans who contributed to the campaign,” said Rev. Peter M. Donohue, university president.
