Delco Chamber of Commerce to Celebrate Former CEO of FMFCU with Lifetime Achievement Award
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will honor John Unangst with its 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday, June 20 at its Annual Membership Luncheon at the Springfield Country Club.
Unangst, who died in January at the age of 71, led the growth of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union from one branch with less than $1 million in assets to 40 branches and $1 billion in assets. Only five percent of all credit unions ever achieve the $1 billion milestone.

Education and financial literacy was Unangst’s enduring passion. He championed many initiatives in schools, businesses, and the community. Two notable examples are the Delco Hi-Q – the oldest, continuous academic quiz competition in the U.S. – and the annual awarding of John D. Unangst Scholarships to high school seniors.
Unangst was a longtime supporter of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, but more specifically, the chamber’s foundation. The Foundation of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is the educational, nonprofit entity of the chamber geared toward career awareness and leadership programs for both youth and adults. Unangst also previously served on the chamber’s board.
