Military families in transit are now able to enjoy a first-class lounge at the Philadelphia International Airport, writes Andrew Maykuth for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The United Service Organizations of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey recently opened the Liberty USO center.

The 4,600-square-foot facility has been relocated from Terminal A to the top of Terminal E. It offers a restaurant-style kitchen, bunkrooms for men and women, a family playroom, theater-style seats ideal for resting, showers, and a quasi-concierge service.

The Liberty USO center is expected to handle around 100,000 visitors a year. It’s open to all active duty service members, reservists, National Guard, dependent family members, and retirees.

The volunteers working at the facility also provide transfer services for new enlistees traveling to the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May.

“By having a place just for service members allows them to escape the stress of traveling and to decompress,” said Chellie Cameron, the airport’s CEO. “They can also get a home-cooked meal served by volunteers at the Liberty USO.”
