Havertown’s Vida Taqueria Wins 94WIP’s ‘Clash of the Tacos’ Competition

By

Havertown’s Vida Taqueria & BYOB, one of the newcomers to Delco’s dining landscape, tied for first place in the “Clash of the Tacos” competition, writes Peg DeGrassa for the News of Delaware County.

The competition was organized by 94WIP Sports Radio. Sportswriter and author Glen Macnow tasted 41 tacos from eateries throughout the Delaware Valley, scoring them from one to 100.

Those with the highest scores then took part in the competition’s finale held at the start of the month at Delaware Park. The eight finalists had to impress both a panel of judges and the crowd of 700-plus taco lovers who showed up for the event.

Vida’s Short Rib Taco – which includes kimchee, watercress salad, and lemon grass crema – tied with Sancho Pistola’s for top honors. Judges for the competition included Macnow, Ray Didinger, Bernie Parent, Jon Ritchie, Lauren Casey, Glenn Gross, and Marc Farzetta.

“We were blown away by the reception we received,” said Bill Ruane, one of the restaurant’s owners. “Our fellow business owners, customers, those attending the Spring Fest, and even the local police clapped and cheered us. “
