Raz Amirian purchased his home in Newtown Square 15 years ago because it stood out from the rest of the neighborhood, writes Shannon Rooney for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I had never seen a unique property like this in this area,” he said. “It reminded me of the French countryside.”

Amirian saw major potential in the 17th-century stone cottage. He realized he could make a very comfortable and out-of-the-ordinary home.

At the time, the home had been abandoned and neglected for a number of years. The previous owner planned to demolish it and replace it with a larger house.

Instead, Amirian restored the home in a colonial style, updating the plumbing and electrical and completely renovating the kitchen and bathrooms. He also restored the hardwood floors and added decorative elements, such as light fixtures on top of stone pillars that he bought from an antique shop in Paris.

Now, 15 years after purchasing the home, his family is moving and selling the property for $589,000.

“Now that our children have grown, it’s time to move on,” said Amirian. “We hope that it will bring as much happiness and prosperity to the next owners as it did for us.”
