WalletHub Proclaims What We Already Knew: Philly One of Best Cities for College Basketball Fans

Villanova basketball fans crowd the streets of Philadelphia to honor the Wildcats' 2015-16 national championship.

Philadelphia is among the Top 10 cities for college hoops fans according to WalletHub’s list of 2018’s Best Cities for College Basketball Fans.

To determine the nation’s best locations for college hoops fans, WalletHub compared more than 280 cities using nine key metrics. These ranged from the number of teams in each city and their winning percentages to stadium capacity and fan engagement on social media.

Philadelphia ranked sixth with a score of 49.51, nearly breaking into the Top Five as Lexington edged ahead with a score of 49.55. However, rankings by city size put Philadelphia in third, behind Los Angeles and Lexington.

Villanova came out on top in the winning percentage category with its percentage of 89.35 among college basketball teams. This is 5.3 times higher than Central Connecticut State, which had the lowest winning percentage of 16.87.

Philadelphia is also on top when it comes to having the most regular season titles with 105.

WalletHub also published its March Madness Stats & Facts. This infographic provides fun and interesting tidbits. For example, corporate losses due to loss of productivity during March Madness were an astonishing $6.3 billion.
