A new exhibit at the Delaware County Historical Society Museum, Library & Research Center in Chester celebrates the work of building trade union members, according to a report in the Daily Times.

Throughout the year, “Honoring Delaware County Building Trades: Celebrating the Charitable and Volunteer Work of the Unions of Delaware County in Our Local Communities” will showcase the many important contributions trade unions have made in shaping Delco.

“It’s great exposure for the building trades to represent what they do for the community and working families,” said Howard Van Buren III, business representative for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19.

Linda Houldin, the historical society’s late executive director, conceptualized the exhibit. She believed that the building trades represented the heart and soul of Delaware County, and that their contribution is too often undervalued.

According to Linda Cartisano, DCHS board chairman, after Houldin reached out, union business agents came to the museum to see what needed to be done.

“After that day, what followed were laborers, bricklayers, electricians, painters, and operating engineers donating their time and their work to the society,” said Cartisano.
