Aronimink Golf Club

One of the biggest and oldest events on the PGA Tour – the BMW Championship – is coming to Newtown Square’s Aronimink Golf Club next September, writes Matt Mullin for PhillyVoice.

This will mark the return of world’s top golfers to the Philadelphia area for the first time in five years.

The penultimate FedEx Cup event features the Top 70 golfers based on current standings. They will battle it out at Aronimink from Sept. 4-9 as they try to secure one of the 30 spots on the Tour Championship.

In anticipation of the event, Aronimink will make some changes, including restoring the course to the original 1928 Donald Ross American parkland design.

“We’re pleased to be bringing the world’s top golfers to Aronimink and the Delaware Valley’s tremendous golf fan base,” said Vince Pellegrino, Western Golf Association senior vice president of tournaments. “We’re looking forward to the energy and excitement the 2018 BMW Championship will generate.”

Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the Platt Evans Scholarship Fund, which helps low-income caddies attend Penn State.
