It has been a curse for commuters over the past 15 years, but soon there will finally be something nice to say about Conchester Pike.

Construction is now under way on a $260 million, two-phase widening of the highway between Route 1 and Interstate 95, according to a Daily Times report by Rick Kauffman.

“This is the main thoroughfare from the Philadelphia Airport to Chester County, and improving it will have a positive economic impact,” said State Rep. Steve Barrar. “It’s time to get it done.”

Conchester Pike, also known as Route 322, will undergo a lane expansion on 3.6 miles, first from Concord to Clayton Park.

Then, in two years, crews will pick up from Clayton Park and go almost all the way to Route 452.

“It would be great to open up this road, because no sooner do you get off of I-95 and it’s stopped all the time, two times a day,” a truck driver said.
