Gov. Tom Wolf, a self-professed lover of Indian food, indulged with a visit to an Indian food plant in Sharon Hill on Monday, according to a staff report from CBS Philly.

Wolf, who developed an affinity for Indian food while he was serving in the Peace Corps in India four decades ago, did not see his visit to Jyoti Natural Foods as simply another stop on his “Jobs That Pay” tour. He admitted that the plant tour was in small part a personal indulgence.

The plant employs 45 people to create and package Indian foods, and has plans for further growth. Leaders at Jyoti urged Wolf to fight for a welcoming environment for immigrants, as many of its workers are from India, the Philippines, and Haiti.

“They’re struggling with – if anything – the challenges of growth, because this food is taking off, and they do a very good job,” said Wolf.

Wolf took the opportunity during the visit to indulge in some of his favorite dishes, including buttered chicken and Saag Paneer, a mix of spinach and cheese. Before leaving, Wolf insisted on paying for his meal.
