Phoenixville Native, CBS3 Chief Meteorologist Speaks at Delaware County Press Club Luncheon

By

Kate Bilo

Phoenixville native and CBS3 Chief Meteorologist Kate Bilo was the guest speaker at last week’s holiday luncheon of the Delaware County Press Club at the Spring Valley Banquet Facility in Springfield.

Bilo, a 2003 graduate of Penn State where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish and International Business, captivated her audience with stories of her journey to becoming a part of the Eyewitness News weather team.

She credited a lot of her success to growing up in the Greater Philadelphia area, and how important it is for a meteorologist, or any journalist, to know the area he or she is covering.

Bilo originally wanted to be a Spanish teacher, but started working at AccuWeather, the State College-based media company that provides commercial weather forecasting services worldwide, after graduating from Penn State.

In 2010, the self-proclaimed bookworm, wife, and mother of two children (with a third on the way) returned to her roots in the Delaware Valley.

Earlier this year, Bilo was added to the Wall of Fame at Phoenixville High School, her alma mater.

Founded in 1979, the Delaware County Press Club is comprised of professionals, active or retired, from the fields of communications, including print and broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing, writing, and photojournalism, as well as communications teachers and students.

The organization currently has more than 225 members.
