Drexel Awards Broomall Native, Cardinal O’Hara Alum Basketball Coaching Extension
The winningest coach in Drexel’s women’s basketball history is now signed through the 2023 season, as the Broomall native at the helm of the Dragons just signed a new contract extension, the university’s athletic department recently announced.
Cardinal O’Hara High School graduate Denise Dillon is currently in her 14th year at the Drexel post, and she’s closing in on 250 career victories.
“Denise is an outstanding coach as well as a great ambassador for college basketball and for our university,” said Drexel President John A. Fry. “We are extremely fortunate to have her.
“Denise continually recruits quality student-athletes to our university who achieve both in the classroom and on the basketball court. Her accomplishments – which include a CAA championship, seven postseason appearances, and a WNIT title – speak for themselves. We look forward to Denise leading our women’s basketball program for many years to come.”
Dillon, who played collegiately at Villanova under legendary coach Harry Perretta, a Monsignor Bonner graduate, is a member of the Delaware County Hall of Fame.
“I am so appreciative of the trust that has been put in me,” Dillon said. “My staff and I are proud of what the program has achieved over time, and I am thrilled to get the opportunity to reach even greater heights moving forward.”
