A hot new motorized speaker that expands to amplify music from a smartphone is turning up the volume on Upper Darby’s entrepreneurship scene.

BumpOut – made by Upper Darby’s Zac Pierce and Matt Chacko, along with Brian Zamrowski of Malvern – has churned out $60,000 of pre-order sales in its first two weeks, according to a Daily Local News report by Brian McCullough.

That success is already reaping benefits for the hometown crowd.

The trio of founders amped up entrepreneurial success stories in October at Upper Darby High School for a turnout of about 100 high school and college students.

“People always say you have to go to New York or Los Angeles to do something like this,” Pierce said. “Our goal is to stay right here, and reinvest back into the community.”

BumpOut got its start at West Chester’s Walnut Street Labs, and plans to roll out a full line of products after the original BumpOut plays out a little.

“If we support each other locally and lead by example, the business and community leaders of tomorrow will emerge,” Pierce said.
