Radnor’s Adapt Pharma has been granted approval by Health Canada to make its nasal spray used to treat opioid overdoses available there, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Canadian agency recently gave the green light for Adapt’s naloxone hydrochloride nasal spray to be used in emergency situations outside of a hospital to reverse known or suspected opioid overdoses.

The company, which has its global headquarters in Dublin, intends to market the product as a needle-free alternative to current overdose emergency treatments under the same Narcan Nasal Spray brand name it uses in the United States.

The exact timeframe for availability of the spray product in Canada is not yet known, but will be announced by the company soon.

“Adapt Pharma has cooperated with Health Canada throughout the approval process to expedite the approval of the naloxone nasal spray in Canada,” said Seamus Mulligan, Adapt’s chairman and CEO. “It is our priority to equip first responders, including the general public, with the ability to potentially treat an opioid overdose, wherever it happens.”
