Wawa Doubling Size of Its Headquarters

Wawa Headquarters

Wawa is more than doubling the size of its headquarters in Chester Heights, west of Media, writes Joseph DiStefano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Construction around the gray, stone house Wawa calls Red Roof started last spring. The additional 200,000 square feet includes a test kitchen, innovation-and-design center, and parking. This will allow Wawa to better support its more than 730 stores in the mid-Atlantic region and Florida.

The changes will also add special features that will showcase the store’s history and culture, according to Michelle Walsh, Wawa’s Director of Retail Implementation.

The headquarters is situated in the middle of properties that were developed and are still partly occupied by members of Wawa’s founding Wood family. The goal of the expansion is to comfortably fit everyone onto the campus, which will be large enough for 900 people.

“Last time we expanded to the right as you face the house. Now we are adding on the left, so the house becomes the center again. Offices to the left and the right,” said Terry Jacobs, a partner in JacobsWyper Architects, which has worked with Wawa since 1984.
