Villanova has cracked the Top 10 of higher education institutions in Pennsylvania that offer the best value, writes Claire Sasko for Philadelphia Magazine.

The rankings have been compiled by SmartAsset for its second annual Best Value Colleges study and ranks schools according to five factors. It gives starting salary, tuition, and living costs a 25 percent weighting, while scholarships and grants and student retention rate are each given a 12.5 percent weighting.

Villanova made it to eighth place in Pennsylvania with a score of 57.59 on the college education value index. The school’s ranking was helped by its $26,933 average scholarships and grants and 94 percent student retention rate.

The highest-ranked school in the state is Lehigh, which also came in 29th nationwide.

The rankings for the entire country, as well as the top ten colleges in each state, can be accessed through the interactive map on SmartAsset.
