Calvary Independent Baptist Church celebrated its 39th anniversary on Sept. 11, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Delaware County News Network.

The autonomous church in the Morton section of Ridley Township boasts a congregation of around 75 people from all over the county.

For Sunday’s celebration, the guest preacher at the Church was Dr. Ed Hindson, the Dean of John Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and speaker on the internationally televised program The King is Coming.

The church’s founder, Pastor John Cartwright, is looking forward to many more years at Calvary Independent Baptist Church. Due to a leaky roof and other maintenance issues in the 1875 building, the church will soon be getting a new home.

Cartwright hopes to construct the new building in the parking lot of the current church by the end of the next year.

“I took a leap of faith when we opened here, and we are about to do it again with the new church. We need the new one if we are going to move forward,” he said.
