Franklin Mint Credit Union building

The Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union is moving its headquarters from its longstanding home in Broomall to Chadds Ford, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Franklin has signed a 15-year lease for 52,000 out of the 71,000 square feet in Brandywine Six, the $19 million, three-story building the Henderson Group is planning to construct at Five Hillman Drive.

The credit union has been doing business at Broomall’s Sproul Road since 1974, but is outgrowing the space, as it plans to expand from its current 179 employees to 240 over the next five years.

The search for a new headquarters focused on Delaware County, as management did not want to go far from its roots. However, after considering 16 options for its headquarters, which included the Henderson proposal being taken off the list twice, further design tweaks finally convinced the credit union to go with the Brandywine Six idea.

With just three employees and under $1 million in deposits when CEO John D. Unangst started working there as a manager in 1976, it now has $1 billion in assets and around 82,000 credit-union members throughout the country.
