Now that we’re beginning to enjoy some warmer weather, those of us who like their produce fresh and grown locally can look forward to shopping at Delco’s eight outdoor farmers markets.

“These markets are more than just a place to pick up something for dinner and buy a few items off a grocery list,” writes Peg DeGrassa of the Delaware County News Network. “Rather, they’ve become destinations. People linger, talk to neighbors and others they run into there, and stop and talk to the vendors to find out more about the local businesses.”

According to DeGrassa, many of the markets have local entertainment and special attractions for kids.

The vendors vary each week. In addition to the food, which ranges from barbecue and ethnic foods to gourmet cupcakes, they peddle wine, crafts, t-shirts, jewelry, and more.

The following is a list of Delco’s farmers markets to check out this year:

  • Media Farmers Market: Vendors include Maiale Deli’s homemade sausages, Larry’s Backyard Barbecue Catering, Canter Hill Farm in Malvern, Firehouse Donuts, Big Sky Bread Co., and Waffatopia.
