This beautifully renovated and expanded stone estate home is set on almost two acres near the prestigious Merion Golf Club, the home of the 2013 U.S. Open, overlooking the fairway on the West Course’s first hole, writes Matthew Sheridan of Philadelphia Magazine.

Located at 20 Dartmouth Lane in Haverford, this mansion chose to build out and around, whereas most others on the Main Line have built up. The layout of the house sprawls around a backyard pool and patio and – although it has 8,000 square feet, four bedrooms, and five and a half baths – it’s almost all on one level.

This incredible home offers spacious, gracious rooms with an open flow, sun-filled spaces, wood-burning fireplaces, beautifully preserved original architecture, and endless views of the glorious grounds, pool, and golf course.

The kitchen has an octagonal shape that surrounds a marble island and features a high vaulted ceiling with skylight windows and wooden cabinetry in keeping with the house’s rustic character. The house is also unusual in having two master bedroom suites, and there are guest quarters in the detached garage. There’s also another garage attached to the house.

The house, listed at $1,595,000 by Kurfiss Sotheby’s International Realty, was originally designed as the pool house for the home of ice cream magnate Henry Breyer.
