It’s safe to say that if you live in Media or Broomall, you won’t be having any debt collectors knocking at your door in the near future.

According to a recent study conducted by WalletHub – an online, industry-leading finance resource – Media ranks in the 95th percentile nationally in terms of its consumers’ ability to keep their financial house in order, while Broomall is 93rd.

WalletHub’s analysts compared 2,570 cities based on eight key metrics, ranging from credit score to average number of late payments to mortgage debt-to-income ratio. The experts utilized TransUnion data from September 2015, the most recent available. Media checked in at 135th overall, as its residents have an average credit score of 722.8 and only 1.74 late payments.

Broomall placed 173rd out of the 2,570 cities. Its average credit score was 719.6, and its residents averaged 1.79 late payments.

Drexel Hill placed third in Delaware County and in the 56th percentile nationally. Its residents have a respectable 14.9 percent credit-card debt-to-income ratio.

Other metrics that affected a city’s rank were student-loan debt-to-income ratio, car-loan debt-to-income ratio, average percentage of credit used, and foreclosure rate.

With regard to WalletHub’s study, each metric was given a value between 0 and 100, wherein 100 is the best value and 0 is the worst. The overall score for each city was then calculated using the weighted average across all metrics.

The term “city” is used liberally throughout the study, as it refers not just to cities but also boroughs.

The Villages, Fla. has the highest credit score, while Camden, N.J. has the lowest. State College and Gettysburg are two of the top five cities with the highest student loan debt-to-income ratio, with 605.58 percent and 649.72 percent, respectively.
