Surrey Services for Seniors recently held a grand-opening party at Annunciation BVM Parish in Havertown that brought together a variety of people, like a wedding with guests celebrating a happy future.

Nearly 150 people enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and entertainment at the nonprofit’s newest location.

“Surrey’s mission is to serve older adults,” Bob Madonna, Surrey President and CEO, said in his greeting. “Tonight, we want to celebrate and help folks learn about all the programs, activities, and services Surrey offers to seniors in Delaware County.”

Denise Stewart, Steve Gamble, and Barb Nicolardi – representatives from the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) – stopped by to help with the official ribbon-cutting. COSA provides critical funding and support for the Surrey centers in Havertown and Media. Guests also included State Rep. Greg Vitale, Eighth Ward Commissioner Gerry Hart, community partners like the Havertown Township Free Library, and local businesses and families.

The celebration also served as a reunion for local seniors who have been part of the community for many years.

“We haven’t seen each other for such a long time,” Julia Rondolone said, as she greeted guests and assembled a group for a photo. Surrey members and members from local senior groups, including St. Denis Seniors, are working together to develop new programs that incorporate the interests and talents of all participants.

The evening would not have been successful without the assistance of community volunteers who helped with everything from set up and serving food to providing musical entertainment. Many volunteers are also members and encourage anyone interested to stop by and try an activity.
