Government Center Remains Closed to Public This Week, Business Closure Enforcement Begins

The Delaware County Government Center will be closed to the public March 23-27.  Government Center offices will operate with a reduced and staggered staff.

A limited number of court offices will remain open.
All employees will be screened before entering County buildings.

Business closures 

Governor Wolf ordered all non-life-sustaining businesses in Pennsylvania to close their physical
locations as of 8 p.m. March 19 to slow the spread of COVID-19.  The order was issued to slow the spread of COVID-19. Enforcement of the order will begin this morning, 8 a.m., Monday, March 23. Businesses who fail to follow the order face citations, fines, license suspensions and forfeit of disaster relief, including state loans, grants and Redevelopment Assistance
Capital Project (RACP) grant funding.

COVID-19 questions, resources, testing

For questions and to find resources regarding COVID-19, call the Chester County Health Department hotline at  610-344-6225, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., seven days a week. You can also call Greater Philadelphia Coronavirus Helpline, staffed 24/7, at 1-800-722-7112.

The county is working to expand COVID-19 test options.  All testing in Delaware County requires a referral from your doctor and residents should call their doctor or an urgent care for an assessment.  More testing information can be found here.

Prison COVID-19 Update

Three inmates and five staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. The three inmates are isolated and did not require hospital care.  Inmates with known exposures, showing no symptoms, are grouped together.

The staff is isolated at home and monitoring for symptoms. Prison staff and inmates are told to report symptoms of COVID-19 immediately.  Staff and inmates are screened for symptoms before entering the facility.

The George W. Hill Correctional Facility is following recommended cleaning guidelines.

Best practices
 Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze with your elbow to avoid touching your
face;
 Wash your hands often with soap and warm/hot water for at least 20 seconds;
 Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available;
 Clean surfaces frequently, including countertops, light switches, cell phones, remotes, and other frequently touched items;
 If you are feeling sick, stay home. Rest, take care of yourself and don’t spread the germs.
