Delaware County is stepping into America’s 250th anniversary with a clear sense of purpose and a plan that extends well beyond the celebration itself.
For several years, Visit Delco and America250PADelco have been quietly building something larger than a tourism campaign, according to Visit Delco staff in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Their partnership weaves together heritage programming, community engagement, and economic strategy, positioning the county as both a destination and a storyteller during one of the most significant moments in American history.
“From the very beginning, the goal has been alignment, making sure that storytelling, tourism, and community engagement are working in the same direction,” said Steve Byrne, Executive Director of Visit Delco. “2026 gives us a platform to show what Delaware County is all about in a way we’ve never been able to before.”
The strategy is two-pronged.
Visit Delco is marketing the county as a natural home base for the wave of visitors expected to descend on the Greater Philadelphia region for major 2026 events.
Meanwhile, America250PADelco has developed exhibits, educational initiatives, and community programming that bring the county’s 250-year history to life, spotlighting the people, places, and defining moments that helped shape the nation.
But leaders from both organizations are quick to point out that the effort isn’t just about filling hotel rooms.
It’s about giving residents a deeper connection to the county’s place in American history and building a sense of local pride that outlasts the anniversary year.
As celebrations ramp up across the region, Delaware County’s unified approach is drawing attention and creating opportunities that are already being built to last.
