The Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy in Bryn Mawr, Delaware County, is merging with Perelman Jewish Day School in Wynnewood.
The merger was approved earlier this week by the Barrack and Perelman boards.
The merger will create the only independent Jewish day school in the region for students in pre-K through 12th grade, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy now serves grades 6-12, while Perelman serves pre-K through fifth grade.
The new combined school will begin operations in fall 2027, pending regulatory approval.
It will consist of three campuses, two from Perelman in Wynnewood and Melrose Park, and one two-building campus at Barrack in Bryn Mawr.
Combined, the two schools have about 700 students and 195 faculty and staff members.
Rabbi Marshall Lesack, who currently heads Barrack, will lead the combined school. Daniel Eisenstadt, CEO of Terramed Real Estate Solutions, will chair the combined school’s board.
“This is a milestone moment for the Jewish community of Philadelphia,” Lesack said. “I hope that it can also be seen as a milestone and a model for other communities to see two thriving Jewish day schools working together.”
