How Did Philadelphia Beat Out 40 Other Locations for DrinkPak’s Newest Manufacturing Facility?

DrinkPAK chose Philadelphia out of about 40 other options to build its new manufacturing facility, finding appeal at the Bellwether District.

Philadelphia is the city that canned beverage company DrinkPak chose to build its new coast-to-coast manufacturing network, writes Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

In doing so, Philadelphia — specifically the Bellwether District in South Philadelphia — beat out more than 40 other markets and locations across the United States.

As a result, Chicago-based HRP Group is planning to transform a former 1,300-acre former oil refinery into a new industrial park with 10.5 million square feet of warehouse space for DrinkPak.

“Finding the right site with the right partner with the right timeline, all signs pointed to the Bellwether District fairly early on,” DrinkPak Vice President of External Affairs Holly Schroeder said. “As we continued to work with HRP, we realized that it was the right site for us.”

But how did Philadelphia beat out other East Coast locations throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, and Maryland?

Well, the DrinkPak team found appeal at the Bellwether District’s industrial campus still being a relatively blank slate. With specific requirements for utilities, water, sewer, power, and natural gas, they are able to build the necessary infrastructure to accommodate its needs.

It also helps that not only were the resources available, but the landlord had a similar vision and the state government was willing to assist.
