A red fox first spotted in Broomall back in October is now tubeless, writes Hayden Mitman for NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The fox had been spotted with a plastic tube around its neck, and efforts have been underway since October to capture the animal and remove the tube.
It has since been trapped, treated, and released back into the wild, according to animal researchers.
The Good Boy Dog Recovery group, which usually rescues dogs, decided to get involved after the fox was seen on camera with what appeared to be a plastic drainage pipe stuck around its neck.
The group said that the fox, nicknamed “Sly,” had been spotted multiple times traveling around Broomall.
It was finally captured Saturday morning.
Good Dog Recover had set up feeding stations and using drones and surveillance cameras to catch the fox.
After its capture, the fox was taken to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center.
In a social media post, the Center reported the fox was a “very cooperative patient” and was able to return to the wild after a few hours with the tube removed. It also received vaccinations and other medical treatment.
