Chadds Ford Jellyroll Band Keeps Name, Withdraws Lawsuit
A lawsuit has been settled that allows Chadds Ford wedding band Jellyroll, and Jelly Roll the country music star, to exist at the same time.
Jellyroll’s founder-trombonist Kurt Titchenell sued Tennessee country music star Jelly Roll in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania over the name, writes Ximena Conde for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Titchenell acknowledged in an email that he had withdrawn his trademark infringement lawsuit against country singer Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord.
The settlement was not made public but both parties seem to be able to keep their names.
“We look forward to our continued use of the name, Jellyroll Band, in connection with our party band business,” said Titchenell.
Titchenell claimed in his suit that he’d been performing in the Delaware Valley since at least 1980 and that the band’s Jellyroll name was trademarked in 2010 and renewed in 2019.
The suit stated the country star started using the name in 2010, and that his recent success was pushing the band’s search results down 20 spots.
At the time the suit was filed, the Tennessean Jelly Roll had won three CMT Music Awards.
